Guide to Essential BioStatistics V: Designing and implementing experiments - Variance.

In this fifth article in the LabCoat Guide to BioStatistics series, intended as a basic refresher for scientists and technicians, we learn about Variance in designing and implementing experiments. Variance determines the required sample size (number of treatments or number of replicates) when designing an experiment. Variance may be estimated from pilot trials or similar, prior experiments. A useful trick to have up your sleeve is the ability to give a rough estimate of the standard deviation of a data set using the Range Rule of Thumb. #statistics #biostatistics #experimentalresearch #cropprotection #bioscience #GuideToEssentialBiostatistics #Experimentaldesign
